Lectures


Frances Wilkins has been giving lectures on many aspects of Scottish music and ethnomusicology including fiddle traditions, music in the fur trade, Scottish sacred music traditions, Scottish music history, Scots and Gaelic singing,  soundscapes studies and fieldwork techniques, since 2005.
 
Frances is frequently asked to give public lectures, and has in recent years spoken at events including the St Andrews Society of Toronto, the Banff Preservation and Heritage Society, Orkney Folk Festival, the North Atlantic Fiddle Convention, Aberdeen Saltire Society and Kyleakin Local History Society. She has lectured at universities including the University of Aberdeen, University of Newcastle, University of Durham, University of Sheffield, University of Limerick, University of Toronto, University of Guelph (Ontario), the University of Rostock, and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock. She also gives workshop seminars in Traditional Scottish Music and Learning and Teaching Traditional Music by Ear.
